Our latest work on how Heat Shock Transcription Factors interact with mitotic chromosomes is now posted as a preprint in BioRxiv. Here, graduate student Rachel Price and postdoctoral fellow Marek Budzynski discovers a new mode of TF-mitotic chromosome interaction using a combination of genomics, live cell imaging, and single particle tracking microscopy. Read all about it here!
We’re very proud to announce that Marek received a prestigious 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. Congratulations Marek!

Iris joined us in Sept 2021 as a Co-op student. A year later, she completes her co-op and returns to finish her last year for Bachelor’s degree. She received an NSERC USRA award, and has collected data that will be included in a research manuscript.
Estelle joined as in May 2022 as a BMB EDI work-learn student. She leaves us to start her 3rd year of undergrad studies.
Best of luck to Iris and Estelle with the coming academic year!
On Wednesday Aug 17, we spent the afternoon at the Vancouver Aquarium to celebrate our lab anniversary. Such a fun day! Happy birthday to the Teves lab!!
Since all 4 graduate students have now qualified to become PhD candidates, the Teves lab celebrated all of our students’ accomplishments with a uniquely Canadian game of 5-pin bowling.
Dr. Sheila Teves is one of three UBC Faculty of Medicine Principal Investigators to be awarded a Stem Cell Network Early Career Researcher Jump-Start Award. This investment in basic stem cell biology will fund a project entitled “Transcription regulation of hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes during maturation and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy” and is a collaborative work between the Teves lab and the Tibbits lab, led by Dr. Glen Tibbits, in BC Childrens Hospital and Simon Fraser University.

Jennifer joins the Teves lab as our newest co-op student. She is currently a 3rd year Biology major at UBC. As a co-op student in the lab, she will examine how mESCs differentiate into Neural Progenitor Cells. Welcome!
To cap off the end of 2021, the Teves lab went on an outing to see the fantastic Festival of Lights at the VanDusen Botanical Garden. The park is transformed into a wintry fairy-tale garden, with each area showcasing different themes through magical show of lights. Highly recommended!
November 23, 2021. It’s been over a year since we last gathered for a group photo. So here we are! Still growing stronger together.
